DAY 15

Light

On Monday, the church remembered Saint Lucy. Her name means ‘light’.

I have realised this year, that one of the more stressful things about Christmas, if you are in a hurry, is unravelling Christmas tree lights! You really have to give yourself an extra hour it seems! And it’s tempting to give up, but you keep going because you know if they work at the end of it, the effect is magical.

Jill and I love to walk around the neighbouring roads each night at this time of year and see the local displays of lights, on trees, on doors, on hedges - warm lights, cool lights, colourful lights. These decorative lights can really lift the spirit, but they also celebrate and point to the greatest source of light.

9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. – John 1:9

We will be singing about this coming light in our church garden at 6pm tonight.
Join us physically, or if you cannot, tune into your local radio station at 6pm - here.

A possible activity (from the church of England’s Advent Calendar)
Go round your home and count how many light sources there are (don’t forget torches on phones and bedside lamps!). Consider giving 10p for each source to a charity that is helping bring light or electricity to people who don’t have easy access to it.
