I am new - A Quick Guide
A warm welcome to St James! We hope the quick guide below will be helpful. Please do explore this website for more information or please do get in touch with us.
Services
Our main service is on a Sunday at 11am. Our style is informal and a friendly community space for time to connect with God individually and corporately. Our congregation comes from quite diverse backgrounds and ages, and all are welcome! There is an opportunity for prayer at the end of the service. There are also light refreshments served after the service, and why not join us in a game of table football or pool! The service is also transmitted via Zoom.
Babies, Toddlers, Children and Young People
They are all very welcome at St James and are encouraged to be actively involved in the services. There is an informal creche area at the back of church, and we really don’t mind if the little ones want to walk around the church while the service is going on, please do walk with them to keep them safe. There is a group for young people and children that meets twice a month.
Visiting us during the week
Our beautiful church is open on a Tuesday and a Friday from 11am-1pm, for prayer, to light a candle and to donate to the foodbank. You will receive a warm welcome, rain or shine! And do enjoy our beautiful garden!
Morning and Night Prayer via Zoom
We have a short service of Morning Prayer, lasting about 30 mins or less, on a Tuesday and Thursday at 9am. We also have Night Prayer, lasting about 20 mins or less, on a Tuesday and Thursday at 9.15pm. It is a lovely way to start and end the day with a warm and welcoming group. You will need to sign-up for our daily enews to access the Zoom link for these.
Quiz via Email
Pit your wits against other enthusiastic quizzers, or challenge yourself! We send a quick quiz around every fortnight on a Friday night at 7.30pm and we trust you not to google search the answers! We then send the answers around 8.30pm, and you have until 9pm on the Saturday night, to complete the quiz, mark yourself, and let us know how many you got. The top 5 positions are announced at the 11am service on the Sunday. It’s a great way to engage with others, and to keep in touch. You can form a team of friends or family or just do it yourself and give yourselves a team name if you wish to!
Racial Justice Conversations
Like many others, George Floyd’s murder in 2020, prompted us to urgently address issues of racial justice. Part of this response has been to start a series of racial justice conversations, usually on the 4th Sunday of the month at 8pm via Zoom. All are welcome, its a safe space for people to share and listen attentively and with respect.
Daily Thoughts
We send out a daily thought for the day, which goes out at around 8.30am on a weekday. It also contains the latest information on what is coming up during the week. So it’s an excellent way of keeping in touch. It also contains the zoom links to various things happening online. To join our enews please subscribe by clicking here.
Come and see our Garden
We have a wonderful and vibrant garden which enriches us with beautiful colours throughout the year. There are a couple of benches to sit on and have a rest, so come and visit us. If you come on a Tuesday and Thursday between 11am-1pm, you can also come inside the church too!
