A loving and connected God, revealed through Jesus
Our faith in a loving and connected God, revealed through Jesus, inspires us to be a positive presence in our community. Jesus reveals God's compassion, justice and is good news to the poor. This inspires us to act by working together with all who wish to make our world a just and kind place, valuing the dignity of all human beings and creation.
Reaching out
As we seek to serve our local community, we are privileged to support and partner with the following local organisations:
Clapham Park Foodbank - providing emergency food for those experiencing a sudden crisis.
The Robes Project - providing warmth, food and a place to sleep during winter for those who are homeless.
The Ace of Clubs - providing food, care, and advice to those who are vulnerable and on the margins. See here how to support them.
Schools
To support our local primary schools as part of their curriculum exploring faith, we invite classes to ‘Experience Easter’ and ‘Experience Christmas’, by visiting St James’ to be part of interactive re-tellings of these two Christian celebrations. Revd Gunasekera also visits our local primary schools to take assemblies.
Visits
We take short services at Collingwood Court nursing home for elderly people within our parish and visit the Central Hill Day Centre.
We run a Good Neighbours visiting scheme, for people who are socially isolated. We provide a weekly social visit (in pairs) in their homes for an hour. If you would like a visit, or know someone you think would like a visit, please contact Jill on jilgunasekera@gmail.com. All our volunteers are from St James’ and are DBS checked.
